My dream blew by, once upon a time,
Racing against life’s long progression,
The tune sublime, which danced with mine,
Faded as days passed in succession.
She was a sweet but strange young girl,
Whose hair blew in the wind so free,
Her eyes were merry and she twirled,
As she sang a song to me.
I longed to catch her and stay a while,
But there was another score, I see,
That I was to live a darker mile,
Far away from dancing sea.
